Plant chemistry - The basic metabolic pathways in plants and animals are very similar. The metabolism of glucose, protein and fats is fundamental to life along with utilization of trace elements, vitamins and other nutrients. Primary and secondary metabolites produced by plants are essential for their survival and may also benefit us. We at Atrimed understand plant chemistry and use it to create remedies for different human ailments. We have a large and extensive library of secondary metabolites of plant origin.
Our computation chemistry team and tools work to generate potential clues from plant molecules. Promising molecules are then extracted from their plant sources and purified to a high degree. They are then tested in in vitro assays to test their performance against specific human disease targets. Once, validated, these molecules are formulated and tested further in animals and then in pre-clinical and clinical studies.
Our work in plant chemistry has yielded potential anti-inflammatory molecules for treating diseases like psoriasis, acne, atopic dermatitis, pain management, anti-ageing and more. All the initial research is done in-house while the pre-clinical work is out-sourced in collaboration with other academia and industry partners.
Synthesizing molecules in the lab to high purity for testing in biological systems is necessary for accuracy and reproducibility. We have a team of chemists who can synthesize molecules for this purpose. Synthetic chemistry is also the preferred tool that is deployed when we need to test molecules from rare and endangered plants.
